About this site
Lantana Now is a free, volunteer-run page where Lantana neighbors share what they're seeing on local roads and with their power, water, internet and waste pickup. Here's what it is, what it isn't, and how your privacy is protected.
An independent site. Lantana Now is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Lantana Community Association, local utility districts, or other governing organizations, nor by the utility and service companies it mentions. Their names are used only to say what neighbors are reporting about.
For information and entertainment only
Everything here comes from neighbors tapping a button and from automated gauges. Don't use this site to make decisions where your safety, or anyone's life, could be at risk.
-
Reports can be wrong
They can be out of date or missing entirely, and a road marked "Reopened" can flood again within minutes.
-
Turn around, don't drown
Never drive through flooded roads. The National Weather Service says six inches of fast-moving water can knock over an adult, and 12 inches can carry away many cars.
-
In danger? Call 911
If someone is in danger, call 911 right away. Don't wait for reports here.
-
Never report while driving
Don't use this site while operating a motor vehicle. Pull over somewhere safe first, or have a passenger report. No report is worth a crash.
Where to check official information
- National Weather Service, Fort Worth Flood watches, warnings and forecasts for North Texas.
- DriveTexas Road closures and conditions from the Texas Department of Transportation.
- Denton County and your city Their emergency management offices announce local closures.
- Your utility, internet provider or trash hauler For outages and missed pickups. Reporting here doesn't tell them, so contact them directly.
How it works
-
Anyone nearby can report
Anyone inside the community boundary can tap a button to say what they're seeing, with no account. Each browser can report each item once every 15 minutes. For electricity, water, internet and waste pickup, you also pick your neighborhood, and the page shows a bar chart of reports by neighborhood. For internet you pick your provider, and for waste pickup you tick trash, recycling or both.
-
Recent reports decide
Each neighbor's most recent report counts, and it fades out over a few hours (a day for missed pickups). The verdict ("Probably Closed", "Possibly Reopened", "Mixed reports"...) comes from adding those up. With no recent reports, the site says so and never guesses.
-
Gauges add context
Rain and creek levels come from public gauges. They're shown for context only and never change the neighbor verdict.
-
Run by a neighbor
This is an independent volunteer project, not run by the Lantana Community Association or any utility or government. There's no tracking and no ads alongside the reports. Local businesses that help cover the costs are thanked on the support page, and never affect what the site shows.
Your privacy
-
Your exact location stays on your phone
Only a rough square, about 1¼ miles across, is sent, to check you're inside the community boundary. It isn't kept.
-
No account, no tracking
There's nothing to sign up for, and nothing follows you around the web.
-
One cookie, only if you report
Reading the site sets no cookies. Reporting sets one, for a day.
The details
- Location
- When you report, your phone's location is used only on your device, to check you're inside the community boundary and to pick the square, about 1¼ miles across, you're in. Your exact location is never sent or stored. Only the square is sent, so the site can check you're in the area, and it isn't kept.
- Neighborhood
- For electricity, water, internet and waste pickup, the neighborhood you pick is kept with your report. The page shows a neighborhood by name only once at least 3 different people have reported from it; smaller counts are added together as "Other neighborhoods". Your choice is also remembered on your device so you don't have to pick it again.
- Provider and service
- For internet, the provider you pick is kept with your report, and for waste pickup, so is whether you ticked trash, recycling or both. The page shows totals for each, and never links a provider or service to a neighborhood. Your provider choice is also remembered on your device.
- Reports
- Which button, when, a random browser ID and, where the item asks for them, your neighborhood, provider or service. They're stored privately and deleted automatically after 30 days. The public page sees each report's button and time, with a throwaway nickname that changes every time, and never the ID.
- The cookie
- When you first report, the site sets one cookie holding a random code, so each browser can report once every 15 minutes. It's used only for that, expires after a day, isn't tied to your name, email or any account, and the page itself can't read it.
- Your network address
- It's turned into a scrambled code to stop floods of reports from one place. The address itself isn't stored, and the code is deleted within a few hours.
- Usage counts
- The site counts how many times each page is opened and each button is tapped, as daily totals such as "Electricity was viewed 41 times today". These counts are sent without any cookie, and no ID, address or anything else about you is kept with them, so they can't tell people apart.
- Contact form
- If you send a message from the Support page, what you write, and your name and email if you add them, are stored privately for the site's admin and deleted automatically after 180 days. They're never shared or added to a mailing list. Your network address is turned into the same kind of scrambled code as for reports, to limit how many messages can come from one place.
- Other sites
- Loading pages also fetches gauge data from USGS and code libraries from cdnjs (Cloudflare). Like any website, those services see your IP address and what was requested. They never receive your reports or your location.
- Boundary map
- The button next to "the community boundary" opens a picture of it on a map. The picture is made ahead of time and comes from this site, so opening it contacts no map service. Your location isn't on it.
- Open in Maps
- A plain link to Apple Maps or Google Maps. Nothing loads from them until you tap it, and then their own privacy policies apply.

Using this site
By using Lantana Now, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Information only, provided as is
The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that it is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose. Reports come from neighbors and can be wrong, late or missing, and gauge readings are provisional. Don't rely on the site for decisions where anyone's safety, health or property could be at risk.
Not an emergency or official service
The site isn't monitored around the clock and isn't a way to reach emergency services, the Lantana Community Association, a utility or any government office. If someone is in danger, call 911. To report an outage or a missed pickup, contact your provider directly. Don't use the contact form for emergencies or urgent problems. The site may be slow or unavailable at any time, including during storms.
Stay safe
Never report while driving or operating any vehicle. Only report what you can see from where you already are. Don't go out in dangerous weather, or approach flooded roads, downed power lines or damaged structures, to check something for the site.
Your reports and messages
Report honestly and only what you've seen yourself. Don't send false, misleading, prank or automated reports, and don't try to get around the reporting limits. Don't include other people's personal information in messages. The site's administrators may remove any report or message and block any browser from reporting, at any time and without notice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Lantana Now and the people who run it are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from your use of the site, your reliance on anything it shows, or its being unavailable.
Independence, links and sponsors
Lantana Now is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Lantana Community Association, local utility districts, or other governing organizations, nor by the companies it mentions. Names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify them. Links lead to sites we don't control, with their own terms and privacy policies. A sponsor's logo isn't a recommendation of its products or services.
Tips
Tips are gifts to help cover the site's costs. Lantana Now isn't a charity, tips aren't tax-deductible, and nothing is given in return. Tips are handled by Ko-fi, under its own terms and privacy policy; Lantana Now never sees your payment details.
Children
The site isn't directed to children under 13. If you're under 13, please don't send a message through the contact form.
Changes and governing law
These terms may change; the date at the top shows when they last did, and using the site after a change means you accept the new terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas.
